About me

I’m an Associate Lecturer at the School of Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Plymouth.

Originally from Athens, Greece, I began my undergraduate training in Biology at the University of Ioannina. It was here that I became interested in Philosophy and continued my studies with a master’s degree in Bioethics and the History and Philosophy of Biology at the Universities of Crete and Exeter. Following a move to the UK, I earned my PhD.

Research areas

My research is on the normativity of epistemic claims in science. Scientific claims are genuinely epistemic on the basis of the styles of thinking and doing in the western scientific tradition.

These styles are historically discernible areas of reason. The actual ordering of reason – or the human ability to order mental content, including sentiments and thoughts – is a matter of socialisation, interaction with the physical world, and personal history. Reason is a socio-cultural variable with profound implications which form an interesting foundation to my research.
